This is SAFe

SAFe® is an abbreviation of something quite complicated: Scaled Agile Framework® from Scaled Agile Inc. SAFe provides an Essential implementation, a Large Solution, a Portfolio implementation, and the Full variant. None of them are simple, and complicated is an understatement, too. In fact, all SAFe solutions are complex.

A fundamental criticism of SAFe is that SAFe is an attempt to kill bureaucracy with agile bureaucracy.

On the one hand, this criticism is justified because SAFe wants to offer a solution for every possible problem, which is documented on many explanatory pages. SAFe seems to try to recognize and explain every obstacle in advance.

However, historically grown bureaucracies and organizations are as complex as mushroom mycelium in the forest soil or the European electricity grid. Who can still see through? Right, navigation in the fog. And that’s why SAFe, on the other hand, is an honorable attempt to somehow stay on track.

Are there more straightforward ways to scale adaptivity?

LeSS (Large Scale Scrum) is more lightweight than SAFe. Yes, LeSS seems simpler—at least at first glance. But, leaders who try to implement LeSS get easily lost because it isn’t as well documented.

In our experience, large organizations are almost invariably unable to cope with the introduction of LeSS.

These are the practical reasons why we initially offer SAFe training. LeSS will follow later.

We provide SAFe®-Trainings (6.0) on request.
